Angel Trapped in Hell

Austin Price, Editor in Chief

To the one that I lost, thank you for my first date.

I didn't know you were an angel trapped in Hell

Until you made your escape

I didn't know what you were

Until it was far too late

Your wings were fractured

Your feathers were torn

Your bones were cracked

Your body, scorned

Your heart was broken

Your soul in tatters

You began to break

As your mind was shattered

You saw the world differently

Taking snapshots in your mind

Your brain played tricks on you

Again and again, time after time

You were a sunflower

Although you couldn’t see it

I wish I would’ve stayed with you

Then maybe you would’ve believed it

A quiet observer

Sitting silently in the night

You took care of others

But smothered your own light

I let you go

And maybe that was a mistake

Maybe if I had stayed

Your life you wouldn’t take

This world was not designed for you

It’s a barren wasteland

You left it behind

With the scars on your hands

What a long walk you’ve had

Trying to get through life

Taking all of your energy

Taking all of your might

Your wings lay useless

Trapped in a sinister vine

I wish I could’ve freed them

And taught you how to fly

This world has failed you

You did not deserve this pain

You felt unreasonable selfishness

And you hung your head in shame

While we can never make more

I treasure the memories we have

I will never forget you

For in my mind, you are trapped

I hope you’re safe now

I hope you’ve finished your journey

I hope it’s not my fault

Though this lesson I am still learning

Goodbye sweet angel

I know I’ll see you again

You are now in the golden palace

And your soul has been cleansed
